January 2020 TBR!

January. The beginning of a new year. This time around, the beginning of a new decade. It’s time to set our yearly reading goals and push ourselves to (the brink of our sanity) spend more time buried in our favorite hobby. It’s also time to choose books for our To Be Read lists – which we will inevitably change at least ten times throughout the year. (Hey – at least we made a plan to get through all of those unread books! Right?)

My goal this year is to read 30 books. I’m not separating it into fiction vs nonfiction this year, or alternating between the two. I found that unless the nonfiction book I was reading was really setting my soul on fire, I would dawdle and ultimately not finish them. Forcing myself to read books that don’t hold my interest does not bring me joy, and so I have decided to just NOT.

My TBR for January 2020:

The Giver of Stars by JoJo Moyes – the story of the Book Women of Baileyville, KY and the struggles they face trying to bring books to rural families and spread literacy. The story focuses on Alice and Margery, the men they love, and their fight against the local mine owner.

When I Was You by Minka Kelly – after Brienne is brutally attacked and left for dead, she becomes a recluse until a mysterious key arrives in the mail and forces her to track down the woman who is posing as her!

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin – a widowed bookstore owner on a small island has a priceless book stolen from him after the death of his wife. He gives up on life and love until someone leaves a very special package in his bookstore one morning.

Reviews will follow throughout the year, along with ratings based on a 5 star scale:

1 star – did not finish

2 star – finished but did not like

3 star – finished and liked, but did not find anything remarkable about the book

4 star – finished and really enjoyed; story had meaning or resonated with me in some way

5 star – finished and absolutely loved; book is added to favorites shelf

How many books are you planning on reading this year?
